Sun Weidong, Chinese ambassador to India, recently held a video dialogue with sutindra kurkani, a well-known Indian scholar, to exchange views on China India relations and other issues.

Sun Weidong said that there are at least three similarities between China and India: China and India are the only two big developing countries with a population of more than 1 billion in the world today; they are important emerging economies in the world; and they are ancient Asian civilizations adjacent to the millennium. Sun Weidong quoted Chinese State Councilor and foreign minister Wang Yi as saying: "the essence of China India relations is the issue of how the two largest developing countries in the world live in harmony, develop and revitalize together." To push China India relations back to the track of healthy and stable development, we should adhere to three "insistences", namely, adhering to leaders' consensus, dialogue and cooperation.

Sun Weidong said that China is constantly improving its all-round business environment, opening up wider and wider, and its future development will bring greater opportunities to countries around the world, including India. The economy of China and India is highly complementary. Whether it is "comprehensive decoupling" or "selective decoupling", it is neither realistic nor beneficial to others. The two sides should integrate into the process of globalization, strive to expand the cake of cooperation, ease trade imbalance in opening up and mutually beneficial cooperation, and realize common development.

Sun Weidong believes that both China and India are emerging developing powers and share important and extensive common interests in international and regional affairs. The two sides should adhere to independence, practice multilateralism in the true sense, strengthen policy coordination within the framework of multilateral institutions, jointly safeguard regional strategic stability, safeguard the common interests of developing countries, and promote the construction of a more just, democratic and reasonable multipolar international order.

Sun Weidong and kurkani also discussed climate change, people to people and cultural exchanges between China and India.
