The reporter learned from Xi’an Customs on the 24th that from January to February 2021, Shaanxi’s imports and exports with major trading partners such as South Korea, Taiwan and countries along the “Belt and Road” exceeded 10 billion yuan (RMB, the same below).
According to statistics, from January to February 2021, the total import and export value of Shaanxi Province was 61.57 billion yuan, an increase of 8.1% over the same period last year. Among them, the import and export of processing trade was 31.2 billion yuan, accounting for 50.7% of the province's total import and export value.
In 2020, under the complex and severe international economic and trade situation, Shaanxi's foreign trade bucked the trend and the total import and export value for the year was 377.21 billion yuan, a record high.
According to reports, the countries along the “Belt and Road” are highly complementary to Shaanxi in terms of resource endowment and commodity trade. With the advancement of the construction of the “Belt and Road”, economic and trade exchanges between the countries along the route are heating up. In addition, the construction of the China (Shaanxi) Pilot Free Trade Zone and the launch of the China-Europe Express "Chang'an" have also promoted win-win cooperation between regions.
According to statistics, from January to February, Shaanxi’s imports and exports to South Korea were 12.79 billion yuan; it was 11.66 billion yuan in Taiwan; and 10.08 billion yuan was in imports and exports to countries along the “Belt and Road”.
During the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, Shaanxi’s foreign trade imports and exports have continuously surpassed the 200 billion and 300 billion mark, with an average annual growth rate of 14.8%, but there are still shortcomings such as small scale, uneven geographical distribution, and slower development of new business models and new models board.
Meng Jun, director of the Foreign Trade Division of the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Commerce, said that this year Shaanxi Province will give full play to the role of multilateral and bilateral economic and trade cooperation mechanisms to support more than 500 key industry enterprises to actively explore the international market through online exhibitions and other forms; increase the transfer of processing trade industries Undertaking efforts, focusing on supporting the upgrading of Xi’an City into a demonstration site for undertaking the transfer of processing trade industries; establishing four platforms for trade promotion, international marketing, integration of transportation and trade, and public services to support the innovative development of foreign trade.
Xi’an Customs stated that the significant decline in the import and export of foreign-funded enterprises and the sharp increase in the import and export of private enterprises and state-owned enterprises are one of the characteristics of Shaanxi’s foreign trade in the first two months of this year.
