On March 29, Greek President Sacraropoulou met with visiting Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Defense Wei Fenghe in Athens.
Sacraropoulou said that Greece and China are both ancient civilizations and the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries continues to develop. Thank you President Xi Jinping for congratulating the 200th anniversary of Greece's independence, and thank China for its strong support in the fight against the new crown epidemic. The Greek side attaches importance to China's position in international affairs, appreciates China's economic and social development achievements and the tremendous progress made in human rights, and is willing to actively participate in the "Belt and Road" and "17+1" cooperation. It is hoped that the EU and China will maintain close communication and jointly promote the sustainable development of the world.
Wei Fenghe introduced China's two sessions, the fight against the new crown epidemic, economic and social development, and the actual situation in Xinjiang. He said that the friendship between China and Greece has a long history and the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" has achieved remarkable results. China will work with Central and Eastern European countries to promote more stable, more substantial and far-reaching cooperation in various fields. The Chinese military is willing to strengthen strategic communication with the Greek military, conduct extensive personnel training, deepen practical cooperation, and elevate the relationship between the two militaries to a higher level. Wei Fenghe emphasized that China always upholds the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, unswervingly pursues a defensive national defense policy, and strives to work with all countries to build a fair, just, and shared international security pattern.
On the same day, Wei Fenghe held talks with the Greek Defense Minister Panayotopoulos and exchanged in-depth views on the relations between the two countries and the armed forces and the international and regional situation.
