Chinese and Egyptian scholars hold a video exchange on the current situation and prospects of Chines

More than 150 well-known scholars, cultural officials and media personages from Chinese and Egyptian literary translation circles participated in the online exchange in Beijing, Cairo, Riyadh and other places respectively.



Shi Yuewen, Minister cultural counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Egypt and director of the China Cultural Center in Cairo, said in his opening speech that literary translation is an important bridge to promote cultural exchange and promote people to people communication. Since its establishment, the Chinese cultural center in Cairo has always been the home of Egyptian Sinology researchers, Chinese translators and Chinese literature lovers. In the future, the center will continue to hold similar seminars to build a platform for Chinese and Arab scholars to continuously enhance understanding and promote cooperation and exchange in literary translation.



Fahmi, an Egyptian Sinologist and translator of Arabic version of Mo Yan's novel the Red Sorghum family, participated in the connection in Riyadh as one of the keynote speakers. He summed up the characteristics of Chinese literary works loved by Arab readers, and introduced the efforts and roles played by local Arabic sinologists, translators, literary newspapers and publishing houses in promoting the translation and introduction of Chinese and Arabic literature.



One belt, one road initiative, will be more and more popular in the Arabia world, and the Sino Arab exchanges and cooperation in the humanities will be more closely linked. Nakaya Suke's talent will be even larger, and the dissemination and recognition of China's excellent literary works in the Arabia world will also gradually improve, he pointed out.



Professor Fu Zhiming, vice president of School of foreign languages, Peking University, participated in the connection in Beijing. From the perspectives of the beginning of Chinese Arab literature research, research institutions, representatives and representative works, as well as the existing problems, he made a detailed review of the research context of Chinese Arab literature and put forward specific prospects.



The experts and the audience also had a heated discussion with the keynote speakers based on their own thinking and experience in translation research, including the translation and introduction of classical literature, the status and role of literature in foreign language teaching, and the cultivation of young translators.
