On May 27th, State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Zhao Kezhi and Serbian Minister of Internal Affairs Alexander Wulin signed the agreement on mutual recognition and renewal of driving licenses between China and Serbia via video on behalf of the two governments.

According to the mutual recognition and renewal agreement for driving licenses signed by the two parties, China and Serbia recognize the valid driving licenses issued by the other side, and one party allows persons holding the other's national driving licenses to drive directly in its territory or renew a driving license without a test. For those who have temporarily entered the territory of the other party for less than one year, the driving licenses of both parties shall be mutually recognized. The permitted types of driving licenses for mutual recognition and renewal include small cars and motorcycles. The mutual recognition agreement will take effect three months after the two parties sign and complete the domestic legal confirmation procedures.

The mutual recognition and renewal of driver’s licenses between China and Serbia will directly benefit the tourists, migrant workers and relatives of the two countries. It will facilitate the driving of the citizens of the two countries, promote the police cooperation between the two countries, and enhance the traditional friendship between the two countries. It is of great significance to promote economic and trade cooperation, people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries, and to serve the joint construction of the "Belt and Road".

According to the relevant person in charge of the Ministry of Public Security, China has already achieved mutual recognition and renewal of driving licenses with Belgium and the UAE, and the mutual recognition and renewal agreement of driving licenses with France will also come into effect. At present, the Ministry of Public Security is actively advancing the mutual recognition and renewal of driving licenses with other countries, further expand the scope of mutual recognition and renewal, enhance the international recognition and recognition of Chinese driving licenses, and facilitate the driving and working life of Chinese citizens abroad.
