WTO: Global trade in goods continues to recover

Date:2021-06-02  Hits:85
According to the data released by the World Trade Organization on the 28th, Global trade in goods will continue to recover this year after a brief and deep decline in the second quarter of last year.

The latest issue of "barometer of goods trade" released by the WTO shows that the global goods trade prosperity index is higher than the benchmark of 100, reaching 109.7. This means a wide recovery of Global trade in goods and an accelerated expansion of trade scale.

The World Trade Organization said global trade trends were basically in line with its annual trade forecast for March this year. At that time, the WTO predicted that global trade in goods would grow by 8.0% this year and 4.0% next year.

The WTO also pointed out that despite the relatively positive trade prospects in the short term, the performance of various regions in the world is not balanced. In terms of trade categories, service trade is still weak. WTO warned that the new global vaccination in all regions of the world, especially poor countries, is lagging behind. COVID-19's resumption will damage the trade recovery process.

According to the Compilation Rules of the global goods trade climate index, the value of 100 is its benchmark. If one index is 100, it means that the growth of Global trade in goods is in line with the medium-term trend. If the index is greater than 100, it means that the growth of Global trade in goods in the quarter is higher than expected; otherwise, it means that the growth of Global trade in goods is lower than expected.

In July 2016, the World Trade Organization released the global trade climate index for the first time. By collecting trade statistics of major economies, it provides early signals on the short-term development trend of current world trade, and provides more timely international trade information for trade policy makers and business circles.
