China and Portugal Sign Memorandum of Understanding on Trade in Services Cooperation

On December 5, witnessed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Prime Minister of Portugal António Luís Santos da Costa, Chinese Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan and Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs Augusto Santos Silva sign the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Commerce of People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Republic of Portugal on Trade in Services. 

According to the Memorandum, China and Portugal will establish the routine agenda projects under the mechanism of the joint committee of economy, strengthen cooperation and dialogues in key sectors of service trade like transportation, tourism, finance, intellectual property usage, technology trade, cultural trade, service outsourcing, service of traditional Chinese medicine and conference and exhibition industry, and promote information sharing in sectors including laws and regulations, public policies, statistic data of service trade, the best practice of industrial standards and certifications of the service industry. 

China and Portugal have strong complementarity in economy, while bilateral trade in services keeps a rapid growth, and cooperation in several sectors like tourism, transportation and finance is favorable. The signing of the Memorandum on trade in services conforms to the new trend and new requirements of the development of China-Portugal economic and trade cooperation, and will surely bring more cooperation opportunities to the development of bilateral trade in services.
