Nigerian President Buhari said at the opening ceremony of "e-naira" held in the capital Abuja that in recent years, with the vigorous development of digital economy, the use of cash in global business activities and payment transactions is decreasing, and digital currency is the general trend. The Nigerian government began to study the issue of digital currency in 2017. The launch of "e-naira" made Nigeria the first African country to officially launch digital currency, and one of the first countries and regions to issue digital currency in the world.
