On March 12, at the China-Ukraine cooperation and "Belt and Road" video exchange meeting, Chinese Ambassador to Ukraine Fan Xianrong said that despite the impact of the new crown epidemic, China-Ukraine pragmatic cooperation still showed strong resilience and fruitful results.
According to data released by the Statistics Agency of Ukraine, in 2020, Ukraine’s total trade in goods with China was 15.419 billion U.S. dollars, a year-on-year increase of 20.5%, of which exports to China were 7.113 billion U.S. dollars, a year-on-year increase of 98%. China continues to maintain its status as Ukraine's largest trading partner. Last year, China and Uzbekistan opened a China-Europe train, which provided an inexhaustible impetus for the expansion of trade between the two countries. With the deepening of China-Uzbekistan “Belt and Road” cooperation, Ukraine's position as a logistics hub in Europe and Asia will be better utilized, China-Ukraine economic and trade cooperation will be faster and more convenient, and the two peoples will receive more benefits.
Ukraine is one of the first countries to respond to the “Belt and Road” initiative. In recent years, China and Ukraine have maintained close communication and cooperation in the joint construction of the “Belt and Road” initiative. In December last year, the fourth meeting of the China-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee was successfully held by video. The two sides conducted extensive, in-depth and efficient discussions on further deepening the strategic partnership and expanding practical cooperation in various fields. A series of important achievements and consensus have been reached in the fields of, science and technology, education, culture, and health. China is willing to work hand in hand with Ukraine to actively promote cooperation under the "Belt and Road" initiative so that the results of cooperation can better benefit the two peoples.
Surkis, co-chair of the Ukrainian Parliamentary Group on China-Relationships of the Verkhovna Rada, and Joerne, chairman of the Ukrainian “Belt and Road” multi-party parliamentarian group, attended the video conference. China and Uzbekistan gathered in the cloud and jointly conducted interactive exchanges with China and Uzbekistan on the future development of the "Belt and Road".
