PowerChina, a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China, and Zambia's state power company ZESCO signed on May 20 a contract for construction of three solar photovoltaic power generation projects with total capacity of 600 megawatts in Zambia.
Under the contract, PowerChina will construct in phases three 200-MW photovoltaic power stations and supporting transmission lines respectively in the three Zambian regions of Kabwe, North Bank of Kariba lake and Kafue Gorge. The construction period of each power station is 12 months.
As the first project undertaken by PowerChina in the African country, the three power stations will supply cleaner and more reliable energy to Zambians, greatly help Zambia alleviate power shortages, and further contribute to the development of industries and the mining sector in Zambia.
