China and Uruguay have vowed to enhance cooperation in the field of information technology. The two countries made the agreement at a forum in Beijing on February 5 when 27 IT companies from Uruguay had business exchanges with more than 30 Chinese enterprises.
The ambassador of Uruguay to China Fernando Lugris said, on occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of China-Uruguay diplomatic relations, Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi visited Uruguay in January when the two countries agreed to foster cooperation in IT industry.
“Latin American countries are natural extension of the Maritime Silk Road. Uruguay welcomes and supports the Belt and Road Initiative. We will seize the opportunity to proactively participate in the B&R construction. Uruguay attaches great importance to the development of IT industry and expects further exchanges and cooperation with Chinese en terprises,” added Lugris.
Carolina Cosse, Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining of Uruguay said, China is Uruguay’s largest trading partner. Both countries bear great cooperation potentials.
“Uruguay has maintained economic growth for as long as 14 years. With its political and economic stability and free trade agreements signed with many Latin American countries, Uruguay can serve as a gateway for Chinese enterprises’ access to Latin American market. What is more, Uruguay’s IT industry is leading Latin America. The newly-built undersea cable has been put into operation. Numerous world’s top-class data centers has been set up, which have provided favorable conditions for China’s IT companies to invest in Uruguay,” added Cosse.
