Xi'an's foreign trade grows by 26.4% in Jan-Aug

From January to August, the value of foreign trade in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, was 287.36 billion yuan ($44.44 billion), up 26.4 percent year-on-year and accounting for 92.7 percent of the province's total.

During the eight months, Xi'an's exports and imports reached 150.11 billion yuan and 137.25 billion yuan, respectively. In August alone, the total value of imports and exports increased 35.3 percent to 41.85 billion yuan.

South Korea was still its largest trading partner over the eight-month period. The city's exports and imports to South Korea were valued at 64.86 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 11.8 percent and accounting for 22.6 percent of the city's total.

In addition, Xi'an's exports and imports to countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative increased 31.3 percent year-on-year to 45 billion yuan in the eight months.

The exports and imports of private enterprises saw the fastest growth at 53.8 percent to 88.15 billion yuan, while those of foreign-invested enterprises and State-owned enterprises increased 15.7 percent and 37.5 percent, respectively.

The value of mechanical and electrical product exports accounted for more than 90 percent of the total, while that of solar cells grew rapidly with a year-on-year increase of 121.5 percent.

In addition, imports of important production raw materials increased to varying degrees.
