Rayong province in eastern Thailand will be turned into a rubber trading center for manufacturing industry under the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) project, a top executive official said on Monday.

Rubber Authority Of Thailand (RAOT) Governor Nakorn Takaviraphat confirmed that Rayong will be promoted as the country's latest rubber trading center to accommodate rubber sheets and latex as raw materials for manufacturing and processing factories under the EEC project.

Existing rubber trading centers are located in southern provinces of Thailand.

The RAOT governor said the rubber prices have begun to rise after China has resumed the importing of rubber products.

Rubber sheets and latex, which are currently selling for no less than 44 baht (about 1.40 U.S. dollars) and 57 baht (about 1.80 U.S. dollars) per kilogram respectively in the domestic markets, might secure higher prices in foreseeable future, Nakorn said.

However, Nakorn said the RAOT has planned to promote the use of rubber products such as gloves and tires within the country in addition to those for export.
