Border province Yunnan sees growing trade with B&R countries

The border province of Yunnan in southwestern China saw its trade with countries along the Belt and Road increase by 14.9 percent year on year to 162.8 billion yuan (about 23.6 billion U.S. dollars) in 2019.

The customs of Kunming, capital of Yunnan, said Thursday the trade volume with B&R countries accounted for more than 70 percent of the province's total import and export.

According to the customs, Yunnan's foreign trade totaled 232.4 billion yuan, with an annual increase of 17.9 percent in 2019. Exports rose 22.4 percent year on year to 103.7 billion yuan, while imports increased 14.6 percent year on year to 128.7 billion yuan.

Statistics also showed the province's trade volume with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations member states reached 114.3 billion yuan, up 25.8 percent year on year.

Its exports of agricultural products set a new record, while electromechanical products and labor-intensive commodities continued to grow.
