Macao's containerized cargo by land up by 21.6 pct in first half of 2019

Macao's containerized cargo by land increased by 21.6 percent in the first half of 2019, while containerized cargo by air and by sea both fell, the special administrative region's statistic service said here on Friday.

The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) showed that in the first half year, gross weight of containerized cargo by land increased by 21.6 percent year-on-year to 8,823 tonnes, and laden containers surged by 37.0 percent to 1,560.

The gross weight of containerized cargo by land in June fell by 4.7 percent year-on-year to 1,479 tonnes, of which cargo passing through the Checkpoint of Cotai went down by 3.9 percent to 1,424 tonnes.

In the first half year, gross weight of port containerized cargo reduced by 7.3 percent year-on-year to 74,610 tonnes. Port laden container throughput decreased by 2.4 percent to 45,108 Twenty-feet Equivalent Unit (TEU), equivalent to 30,294 containers handled, down by 2.2 percent.

The gross weight of port containerized cargo in June dropped by 18.1 percent year-on-year to 12,557 tonnes, with cargo handled at the Inner Harbour (6,782 tonnes) falling by 14.1 percent. Meanwhile, port laden container throughput totaled 7,521 TEU, equivalent to 5,055 containers handled, down by 4.0 percent and 4.4 percent respectively.

The Macao International Airport handled 18,375 tonnes of air cargo in the first half year, down by 3.0 percent year-on-year. In June, the airport handled 3,135 tonnes of air cargo, an increase of 10.2 percent year-on-year.
