Date:2019-06-22  Hits:26

The 2019 edition of the annual China-Europe Human Rights Seminar opened here on Friday, bringing together around 100 experts and scholars under the theme of "Comparison of Human Rights Values between the East and the West".

In his speech, Fu Zitang, vice president of China Society for Human Rights Studies, reviewed China's human rights development, highlighting a great leap since the founding of the People's Republic of China 70 years ago. China has been globally recognized for its achievements in human rights development and has successfully embarked on a path that is in line with its national conditions and the wishes of its people, he said.

Former Austrian President Heinz Fischer, who is also president of the Austria-China Friendship Association, said the presence of so many human rights experts from China and Europe is an impressive manifestation of a common goal, and the variety of the papers coming from scholars is a convincing mirror of all the global efforts dedicated to a better understanding and promotion of research on human rights.

He urged the world community to work hard to recognize, protect and promote human rights on a global scale for future improvement.

Chinese Ambassador to Austria Li Xiaosi said China and Europe should strengthen their dialogue and exchanges, learn from each other and enhance understanding and political trust on the basis of mutual respect and equal treatment in order to play a greater role in promoting global human rights governance.

The China-Europe Human Rights Seminar was established by the China Society for Human Rights Studies in 2015. It serves as a platform for promoting dialogue, in-depth exchanges and understanding between China and Europe.
