"The world needs a peaceful China all the time," say scholars

The past 70 years have witnessed a new China transformed into the second largest economy and a very important element for world peace, Turkish analysts have said.

More than 700 million Chinese people have been lifted out of poverty over the past 40 years alone, while China has been contributing annually by more than 30 percent to global growth since the 2008 financial crisis.

China has "achieved a remarkable success for sustainable development, poverty alleviation, and inclusive growth in the last seven decades under the model of socialist economy with Chinese characteristics," said Selcuk Colakoglu, director of the Turkish Center for Asia Pacific Studies.

"Carrying out this admiring economic growth in the world's most populous country is another huge success for China," he said, referring to the Chinese efforts that would be doubled in 2019 to achieve the goal of lifting all rural residents out of poverty and eliminating poverty in all poor regions by 2020.

"Gradual opening of the Chinese domestic market has provided a sustainable development within a stable environment," said Colakoglu.

As the country's reform and opening-up since 1978 has changed the destiny of the Chinese nation and influenced the world, China has pledged to open even wider its door to the world in the days ahead.

Kutay Karaca, an academic with Istanbul Aydin University, and Irfan Karsli, head of Ligarba Travel in Istanbul, visited China many times and were impressed with its rapid development.

For Karaca, who called himself "one of the persons who witnessed how China developed," saw different progress that amazed him every time he revisited China after 1999.

He was again in China in April 2008 before the Beijing Olympics and was surprised to see the millions of people living around the area wher the Olympics were to be held obey every rule to be applied to the games.

In Karsli's opinion, China is also successful in harmonizing the differences that arise from its 56 ethnic groups living together.

"It is very important in a country like China havin a huge population in large geography, wher the Chinese people live in a very pleasant way," he said.

Karsli attributed China's success to the hard work of the Chinese people, saying "the growth is happening with hard work and planning, not by chance."

In the eyes of Colakoglu, a rising China is also a champion of international rules for achieving "order and stability" within the the framework of the United Nations (UN).

"After getting very successful economic development, now China develops strategy and allocates funds for peaceful initiatives for the settlement of various regional and global issues," he said.

"In this regard, China has become the main sponsor of peace and stability in international order," he said.

The scholar voiced concern about the rise of populist, ultra-nationalist, xenophobic and anti-globalism tendencies across the globe, calling it "a great challenge to regional and international peace and order."

In his view, populist leaders refuse to obey the established rules by the UN and other international organizations "without considering that this attitude will eventually destroy the current international order."

"Within this increasing chaotic climate, China, as the second largest economy of the world and a permanent member of the UN Security Council, is still firm in its commitment to the international community and a responsible player for global governance in general," he said.

"This makes China indispensable for addressing global issues properly," he stated.

Citing latest UN data, Karaca spoke of China as one of the top contributors to peacekeeping operations in the world.

"China is a very important element for world peace," said Karsli.

"A strong China is very valuable. China's international policies and security policies are crucial for world peace in terms of ensuring power balances," he explained.

"It is very important that China has taken up a position in the face of recent international injustices and irregularities," he noted. "That's why I think the world needs a peaceful China all the time."
