Armenia, Georgia vow to boost trade

Armenia and Georgia vow to bring their trade turnover up to 1 billion U.S. dollars, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in a joint press conference with his Georgian counterpart Mamuka Bakhtadze here Monday.

"We have the objective of adjusting the economic component of our relations to ...the emotional level of relations between our nations," Pashinyan was quoted as saying by Armenian news agency Armenpress.

"I believe that our ties in various areas can become more active. We understood from the course of our discussions that we have potential that still needs to be unveiled," said Bakhtadze.

Armenia and Georgia both gained their independence amid the collapse of the Soviet Unio in 1991. The two nations have enjoyed friendly relations for decades. Georgia is also home to a sizeable Armenian minority.
