Philippine President Marcos and his wife held a light and fireworks show on the banks of the Pasig River in Manila on the evening of the 7th to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and China. Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian was invited to attend and delivered a speech.
President Marcos said that the event that night gave Jones Bridge a historical and cultural landmark, which was the core of the "Chinese District Revitalization Plan". The deep significance of the event lies in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and China. This bridge and the streets here allow us to stop in the hustle and bustle, rapid change and uncertainty, thinking about the nature of the country and the values we share cherish.
Huang Xilian said that the Jones Bridge lighting fireworks show was inspired by the Beijing Liangmahe lighting project and will become another example of China-Philippines private exchanges and cooperation. Overseas Chinese in the Philippines have made great contributions to the independence and liberation of the Philippines and economic and social development, and should be fully recognized and highly cherished.
China and the Philippines are close neighbors that cannot be moved away. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, we look forward to the two sides revisiting the original intention of establishing diplomatic relations, following the will of the people, seeking cooperation rather than confrontation, dialogue rather than conflict, and promoting bilateral relations to return to the track of healthy and stable development as soon as possible.
