Boakai wins Liberia presidential election

Monrovia News: Liberia’s National Election Commission announced on the 20th that the country’s former Vice President Joseph Boakai defeated current President George Weah in the second round of voting and won the presidential election.According to the statistical results released by the National Election Commission of Liberia that night, Boake received 50.64% of the votes in the second round of the presidential election, and Weah received 49.36% of the votes.The second round of voting in Liberia's presidential election began on the morning of November 14, local time, with approximately 2.4 million voters registered to vote.After the National Election Commission of Liberia announced the results of more than 99% of the vote count, Weah said through the national radio station on the evening of the 17th that he had spoken to Boakai to congratulate him on his victory and admit that he had failed in the election.In the first round of presidential and national assembly elections that began on October 10, Weah and Boakai received 43.83% and 43.44% of the votes respectively.According to Liberian electoral law, presidential candidates must obtain more than 50% of the total votes to avoid entering the second round of elections.The results of the first round of the election showed that none of the 20 presidential candidates obtained the percentage of votes required for complete victory under the electoral law.
