Cebu local government urges plans for local tourism and trade

The Cebu local government department is formulating plans to promote domestic tourism and locally produced products and services to help the economy survive the effects of the Covid-19 crisis. Glenn Anthony Soco, a member of the Cebu Provincial Assembly, said that cities and towns in Cebu Province should provide information about "the need to raise awareness among residents" and patronize local products and services. Soko said in a statement: "Local governments need to inspire the confidence of consumers and customers to make them believe that businesses are open and willing to receive guests and provide quality services that Cebu is famous for, while strictly complying with the regulations set for the spread of Covid. Agreement." He said that the Provincial Assembly passed a resolution on Monday, strongly calling on all local governments and state institutions in Cebu to strengthen plans to support the economy. Soko said that Cebu’s economy relies on tourism and hotel services, which require the support of local residents to survive the pandemic. He said: "Similarly, local government departments and other relevant national institutions are required to vigorously adjust their efforts in preventing the spread of the new crown virus, and at the same time formulate specific plans and programs on an equal footing to promote their economy, labor force and enterprises to regain a new life and be involved in it. Survive."

After citing the effects of the lockdown during the strict community quarantine last year, Soco closed some premises. However, the measures taken by his governor, Gwendolyn Garcia, expressed confidence that the local economy could rebound. Gwendolyn García led the provincial government to reopen local tourism in different towns, such as Oslob, the whale watching capital of Cebu. He added: "At the same time, it is shocking that despite the constant struggle against Covid-19 and the fear of the emergence of new Covid strains or variants, the economy should not be regressed in the government's priority plan."
